YESH PARTNER
Introduction:
We hear over and over from the Political echelons on both sides – Israel and the Palestinian Authority – that there is no partner. They are referring to the leadership on the other side, but they are also convinced that the PEOPLE themselves do not want peace and are not willing to make compromises. We know that this is not true – the PEOPLE – thousands and thousands – want peace . Because we know that these large numbers of Israelis and Palestinians are actively participating in a broad range of dialogue / discussion / meetings/ joint events. Regular people meeting regular people. The formats and methodologies vary among the organizations that coordinate such events – but the bottom line is that these meetings which have attracted so many thousands – who want to know “the other” – are transformative for the participants.
We are a group of activists - Israeli and Palestinian that recently participated in the Center for Emerging Futures, Global Village Square. At the Everest Hotel in Bet Jala over 50 participants gathered. As meaningful as the encounter was, and as important as it is that such meetings continue and multiply – we believe that the next step is to leverage the large quantity of people – Israelis and Palestinians that want peace – and prove to the politicians that there is a Partner. This large collection of individuals – can create the power to influence.
Goal:
Influence the decision makers via the large quantity of people that have participated in discussion and other dialogue and activism groups – via the power of numbers, to recognize that YESH PARTNER (There is a partner). Bring this reality to national awareness!!
Further to the influence this can wield, the effort will also further encourage new participants to join Israeli-Palestinian meetings and discussions. Peace cannot happen just via political discussions - the field has to be ready for it as well.
Work-plan:
Map the many dozens (if not hundreds) of groups and NGOs that are active in Israel-Palestinian dialogues and other joint activities. The mapping will include the name of the coordinating body, contact information and the estimate of the numbers of participants over the years. (Ideally we would like to have names of participants, but recognize that this can be sensitive, especially on the Palestinian side).
Create a database of the organizations that were compiled accessible via the Yesh Partner website
Build a social network campaign – with the slogan YESH PARTNER – to raise public awareness – and to encourage new people to participate in joint activities via the database of programs available on a user-friendly and attractive website
Develop an advocacy plan – for an ongoing series of meetings with decision makers – on both sides – based on the reality of the quantity of individuals committed to peace
Coordinate a very large conference/event – inviting the participants/ graduates of joint programs, decision makers, media and the public at large.
We are now in the early stages of developing this program and are receptive to input, suggestions and partnerships.
